PADI Divemaster and PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) Gili Islands

Two of the most interesting and fun PADI programs offered at Trawangan Dive are the PADI Divemaster (DM) Internship program and the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC), both programs are just two of the professional programs offered by Trawangan Dive; currently the only PADI Career Development Center (CDC) in Gili Trawangan and the first to be established in the Gili Islands.

The PADI Dive Master Program at Trawangan Dive; 5 Star IDC CDC Center in Gili Trawangan

The PADI Divemaster Course usually takes between 3 and 5 weeks and requires participants to take part in Knowledge Development Sessions, Water Skill Exercises, Divemaster Workshops and a hands on practical assessment; ultimately developing the leadership and role model characteristics to organize and direct a range of scuba diving activities. During the program Divemasters in training will assist PADI Instructors in conducting the PADI Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) programs and a range of additional recreational dive programs offered at the dive center. Divemasters in training will also be required to lead and organize a Discover Local Diving program and conduct a scuba review and skin diver course whilst gaining indepth knowledge and experience of supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers. Other components of the program include learning about Divemaster conducted programs and specialized skills, the role and characteristics of the PADI Divemaster, Diver safety and risk management, Business of diving and your career and Awareness of the dive environment. Divemasters in training will also gain practical experience, knowledge and exposure to Dive setup and management, mapping an open water site, Conducting dive briefings, organizing a search and recovery project and a deep dive.

The program runs throughout the year and is structured to allow participant to start the program whenever they wish. Trawangan Dive is a fairly large dive center and can offer Divemasters in training the chance to develop the skills necessary to become a successful leader, mentor and role model to student divers

As a certified PADI Divemaster you already possess the leadership skills to guide certified divers and conduct Scuba Review and Discover Local Diving programs, but you will not be able to actually teach the rest of the PADI educational programs. By taking the PADI Instructor Development Course, Divemasters can expand the range of programs that they are able to conduct independently covering the full range of PADI non specialty recreational dive courses and thus, immediately embark upon an extremely rewarding and successful career as a PADI Scuba Diving Instructor.
The course is split into classroom, cofined water and open water environments. During classroom sessions candidates will practice their theoretical knowledge for the instructor examination and practice their academic classroom presentations by introducing knowledge development topics from the Open Water, Rescue, Divemaster and Project Aware courses. During the confined pool sessions, candidates will practice their confined water skill presentations by teaching skills from the Open Water and Rescue course to their fellow candidates, through this process they will learn how to manage and conduct all of the skills contained within the Open Water course. During the Open Water sessions candidates will practice their open water presentations and expand the range of skills they teach to include parts of the Adventures in Diving and Rescue courses; Rescue exercises are focussed on  particularly as candidates practise their own skills to the level expected of a PADI Instructor. Candidates will also receive training on the business side of the dive industry, how to market yourself or your dive centre, and how to manage risk and legal responsibility.
The daily schedule is split evenly between classroom sessions and in water training; we start each day with knowledge development presentations and move to either the pool or open water for the afternoon. This is one way of keeping candidates  fresh, focused and having fun during their training.
The PADI IDC Gili Islands program runs each and every month at Trawangan Dive and is conducted entirely by award winning Platinum PADI Course Director Holly Macleod who has a reputation for success.
